Museum aan het Vrijthof

Museum aan het Vrijthof is a photography museum in central Maastricht housed in a former Spanish Government building. It displays rotating photography exhibitions throughout the year across multiple gallery spaces.

The building originated as a 16th-century palace where Emperor Charles V stayed during his rule of the Spanish Netherlands. It was later transformed into a government residence before becoming the museum it is today.

The museum presents two major photography exhibitions each year, bringing together established international photographers and emerging regional artists. These shows create a space where local perspectives share the same walls as renowned international work.

The museum is centrally located and easily accessible on foot, with gallery spaces spread across multiple levels. Allow time to explore the rotating exhibitions at a leisurely pace to fully appreciate the work on display.
