Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park
Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park, Protected sand drift area in Noord-Brabant, Netherlands.
The park extends over 35 square kilometers of sand dunes, dense pine forests, and heathland between Tilburg, Waalwijk, and 's-Hertogenbosch.
During the Middle Ages, excessive grazing and peat extraction transformed this region into a sandy wasteland, leading to the formation of extensive dune systems.
The park contains several World War II monuments commemorating resistance members and marking the locations of former German ammunition storage facilities.
Eight entrance points provide access to the park, with five offering direct routes to the sand drift areas and facilities including bicycle rentals and cafes.
The temperature variations in the sand dunes can reach 40 degrees Celsius during summer days and near freezing at night, creating specific microclimates.
