Cortenbach Castle, Medieval castle in Voerendaal, Netherlands
Cortenbach is a medieval castle located in Voerendaal in the southern Netherlands. The structure features two round towers built with Kunrader limestone and retains portions of the original outer defensive works from its earlier fortified layout.
The castle was established in the 14th century as a medieval fortress. A major reconstruction in 1776 transformed its layout and gave it the architectural form it still retains today.
The castle represents traditional Dutch defensive architecture, combining medieval military elements with later residential modifications typical of Limburg nobility.
The castle is located at Cortenbach 1 in Voerendaal and now functions as a private business headquarters, so visitors can view it from the outside. Access to the interior may be limited since this is an active workplace rather than a public site.
From 1939 to 1988 the property operated as an upscale hotel and restaurant before becoming the headquarters of a facilities company. This mid-20th century hospitality period left its mark on the building's interior layout.
