De Bente

De Bente is an eight-sided wooden mill with a thatched roof located in Dalen, standing on a stone foundation. The structure contains two sets of millstones and can grind approximately two tons of grain per week.

A previous mill on this site was destroyed by French forces in 1813, prompting the construction of this stellingmill in 1814. The mill underwent major restoration work in 1976 to ensure its survival.

The mill demonstrates traditional Dutch milling through wind power, showing how grain is processed using methods that have been practiced for centuries. You can observe these techniques in action when visiting.

The mill is not open every day, so check opening times before planning your visit. The stone foundation and wooden structure mean the building is sturdy and safe to explore throughout.
