Maarheeze, Administrative division in Cranendonck, Netherlands
Maarheeze is a village in North Brabant province, located approximately 15 kilometers southeast of Eindhoven within the municipality of Cranendonck. The settlement sits in a region near Belgian and German borders and connects to regional transportation networks through a railway station that was rebuilt in 2010.
The settlement first appears in written records from 1223 under the name Marresia, growing from a small church village into an established community. By 1840 the population had grown to around 220 people.
During carnival season, the village adopts the name Muuzegat, and residents celebrate with traditional festivities that strengthen community bonds. These regional celebrations shape the social rhythm and define an important part of local life.
The railway station provides direct connections to larger cities in the region and is regularly used by commuters. Local services and administration are easily accessible, and proximity to the borders makes it straightforward to visit neighboring countries.
Although the village sits in North Brabant, residents speak the Budels dialect, which belongs to the Limburgish language group rather than the regional East Brabantian tongues. This linguistic distinction sets the local community apart from surrounding areas.
