Kröller-Müller Museum, Art museum in Ede, Netherlands.
The Kröller-Müller Museum is an art museum in Ede, Netherlands, displaying modern art across several galleries within a modernist building complex. The exhibition rooms guide through different periods of nineteenth and twentieth century painting and sculpture.
Art collector Helene Kröller-Müller founded this institution in 1937 to share her extensive collection of artworks with the public. Her husband financed the building while she spent decades assembling the collection.
The second largest collection in the world holds ninety paintings and over one hundred eighty drawings by the Dutch painter, including works from every phase of his short life. The assembly shows his development from early dark realism to the bright colors of his later years.
Access happens through the Hoge Veluwe National Park entrance, where visitors can borrow white bicycles to explore both the building and the surroundings. The sculpture garden covers a large area and requires enough time for walking.
The sculpture garden spans twenty-five hectares and presents over one hundred sixty sculptures integrated into the forest landscape. The white bicycles visitors can use for free date back to the early years of the park and have become a recognizable feature.
