Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica, Research library for hermetic philosophy at Keizersgracht, Amsterdam, Netherlands
The Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica houses 25,000 titles, including 5,000 books and 300 manuscripts dating from the 15th to 18th centuries.
Founded in 1984 by Joost Ritman, the library emerged from his personal collection of rare books focused on ancient mysticism and religious philosophy.
The collection centers on Christian-Hermetic traditions, containing texts about Rosicrucianism, alchemy, gnosis, Sufism, Kabbalah, and comparative religion studies.
Visitors need to submit requests two weeks in advance to access specific books in the supervised reading room at Keizersgracht 123.
UNESCO recognized the library collection with Memory of the World status in 2022, acknowledging its importance for cultural heritage preservation.
