Zeldenrust, Gristmill in Dokkum, Netherlands.
Zeldenrust is a gristmill with an octagonal structure and four sails, positioned three stories high above a four-story base in western Dokkum. The mill contains four pairs of millstones designed to process different grain types, including wheat and pearl barley products.
Built in 1862 by millwright F van Delden, it replaced the Driepiepstermolen that was destroyed by fire the previous year. The building survives today as a protected monument representing 19th-century milling craftsmanship in the Netherlands.
The mill represents Dutch industrial heritage as a Rijksmonument, featuring both Common sails and Ten Have sails with streamlined leading edges.
The mill features a cast iron windshaft mechanism operated by tailpole and winch, allowing simultaneous processing of multiple grain types. Note that it is an active monument and upper-floor access may be limited during visits.
