Springendal

Springendal is a nature reserve in Dinkelland with several water features including ponds, waterfalls, and small streams running through wooded and farmed areas. The site combines natural waterways with historic fields to create a varied landscape for exploring.

A textile industrialist named Jannink from Enschede purchased this land in 1920 and transformed traditional farmland into an estate with English landscape design. This transformation shaped how the place looks today.

The medieval raised fields called essen show how farmers enriched their soil across generations through continuous work. Walking through these fields, you can see how this ancient farming method shaped the landscape itself.

The area is reached through the parking area at Hooidijk, where marked trails guide you past various natural features and historic sites. The paths are well-established and easy to follow, making navigation straightforward for any visitor.

Natural springs emerge at different locations across the area, forming three interconnected ponds that serve as the source of the Springendalsebeek stream. These springs gave the place its name and explain why water shapes the landscape so distinctly.
