Sint-Aloysiuskerk, Municipal monument church in Abstede, Utrecht, Netherlands.
Sint-Aloysiuskerk is a church building in Utrecht's Abstede neighborhood with a distinctive hexagonal shape and a 24 meter high dome. Six structural pillars support this dome and create the building's most notable visual feature.
The church opened in 1924 to serve the growing population of the Abstede gardening district. It replaced a smaller religious building that could no longer accommodate community needs.
The interior features artistic mosaics depicting saints and stations of the cross created by Willem Wiegmans. These artworks shape how visitors experience the space when they enter.
The church is open on Sundays for services and also operates on weekdays with regular hours. It sits in a quiet residential area that is easily accessible on foot.
The two church bells, named Aloysius and Gerardus, were installed after World War II as replacements for the originals that were confiscated during the war. Each bell bears inscribed psalm verses that reflect their spiritual purpose.
