Heerlijkheid Marienwaerdt, Historic estate in Beesd, Netherlands.
Heerlijkheid Marienwaerdt is a large estate spanning 900 hectares of farmland, meadows, willow groves, forests, and pathways marked by boundaries from 1734. The manor house was built between 1734 and 1790 and now houses a restaurant and farm shop, while the land structure has remained essentially unchanged for nearly three centuries.
The site originated as a Norbertine abbey, and its medieval refectory remains beneath the current main house. The present manor house rose in the second half of the 18th century, marking the transition from monastic to private landholding.
The name Marienwaerdt reflects its medieval origins as a convent dedicated to Mary. Visitors can see how historical buildings remain woven into daily activities, especially during annual gatherings that bring together local craftspeople and food producers.
The grounds are easy to explore on foot, with paths and trails running throughout the property. Visitors can enjoy open access for walking, while the farm shop and restaurant provide convenient spots to pause and enjoy refreshments.
The property holds thirty-two registered national monuments, including buildings, objects, and garden features that document its architectural story. This concentration of protected elements makes it an exceptional example of Dutch estate preservation across generations.
