De Eendracht, Historical grain windmill in Anjum, Netherlands.
De Eendracht is a stone-built grain mill in Anjum with a round structure and rotating cap overlooking the agricultural fields of Friesland. The building still processes grain using techniques that have been employed for generations.
The mill originally developed before 1786 in Leeuwarden for hulling barley and oats. In 1888 it was relocated to Anjum and mounted on a new brick foundation.
De Eendracht represents the Netherlands' milling heritage through its continued grain processing operations maintained by local volunteer millers. Visitors can observe today how these volunteers practice and preserve the craft of traditional grain milling.
The location is accessible from April through October and offers visitors the chance to see inside the mill. Plan to visit in the early afternoon when light best illuminates the building and surroundings.
Following a 2014 fire, the mill received a new steel-framed structure with cap and sails in 2018. This combination merges its historical appearance with modern materials and engineering standards.
