Sint Bavo

Sint Bavo is a monastery complex in Noordwijkerhout that was used as a psychiatric facility, featuring a two-story main building with corner pavilions. The chapel with its copper-covered dome and connecting glass corridors define the overall layout of the site.

The Brothers of Charity purchased land in dunes in 1913 and opened the facility in December 1914. This represented modern psychiatric approaches emerging in the early 20th century Netherlands.

The chapel displays classical architectural features with marble flooring and vaulted ceilings supported by columns. This design reflects the spiritual role the building held for residents who gathered there daily.

The complex sits in an open area without surrounding walls or fences, allowing free access and easy orientation. Some buildings were demolished for future development, so check what is currently accessible before your visit.
