Queen's church, Art Deco church in Crooswijk, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Queen's Church was an Art Deco church building in Crooswijk distinguished by two prominent copper spires that rose above the surrounding area. The structure could accommodate around 1750 worshippers and was constructed with solid brick walls.
The building was constructed between 1904 and 1907 with financial backing from the Van Dam sisters, who also patronized other religious projects in the city. It was demolished in 1972 despite significant public opposition.
From 1940 to 1966, the building functioned as a concert venue for the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra after their original location was destroyed.
The original building no longer stands and has been replaced by a nursing home and residential tower on the same site. Visitors can learn about it through historical records and photographs.
A Dutch newspaper recognized this demolished building in 2013 as the most beautiful torn-down church in the entire country. The recognition demonstrates how deeply the structure remained in people's memories long after its removal.
