Rotterdam-Zuid, Urban district in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Rotterdam-Zuid is an urban area on the southern bank of the Maas River with various neighborhoods and modern housing. The area extends from industrial zones to office and residential districts with contemporary architecture.
After World War II, the area was largely rebuilt and transformed from an industrial port district into a modern urban area. This transformation gave the entire neighborhood a new face.
Different neighborhoods here reflect their own character: Katendrecht draws visitors with restaurants and cafés, while Kop van Zuid has developed into a business district with striking office buildings. The areas blend together into a living mosaic of different communities and uses.
The district is well served by metros, trams, and buses, plus numerous cycling routes and the Erasmus Bridge for connection to the center. The infrastructure makes it easy to navigate and explore the different neighborhoods.
This area holds the largest concentration of pre-1940 buildings in Rotterdam because it largely escaped bombardment. This makes it a special place to see architecture from earlier periods mixed in with modern construction.
