Sprookjeswonderland, Family amusement park in Enkhuizen, Netherlands
Sprookjeswonderland is an amusement park in Enkhuizen, in the north of the Netherlands, with rides, puppet shows, and a small farm spread across indoor and outdoor areas. The attractions are built to a scale suited to toddlers and young children rather than older kids or adults.
The park opened in 1973 starting from a single garden gnome figure placed on the site, and grew gradually from that point. New sections were added over the following decades without changing the overall character of the place.
The park brings European fairy tale characters to life through handcrafted puppets and moving scenes that children can walk past at close range. Many of the figures come from stories that are widely known across the Netherlands and neighboring countries.
The park is in Enkhuizen, a small town on the IJsselmeer, and has free parking on site. Visitors are allowed to bring their own food and drinks, which makes it easier to manage the day with young children.
Most of the attractions were made by hand on site rather than bought from suppliers, which gives each area a very personal look. The founder is still actively involved in the day-to-day running of the park and continues to work on its development.
