Kasteel Ulenpas

Kasteel Ulenpas is a castle in Hoog-Keppel built from rectangular brick construction with two stories. The building features a distinctive Dutch gable roof, white plastered walls, and symmetrically placed windows in the Empire style with shutters, along with a central entrance topped by a triangular pediment.

The castle was founded in the 14th century and later served as an administrative center during conflict between France and the Netherlands. A devastating fire in the 20th century destroyed much of the building, which was subsequently rebuilt.

The castle displays features from different eras in how it stands today. Visitors can see how the facades and windows changed over time, while the structure maintained its importance as a residence for local nobility.

The castle sits near Dubbeltjesweg in Hoog-Keppel and holds status as a specially protected monument. A visit lets you see the medieval cellars that show the original construction method.

The castle was used as a command center by French military forces in the 17th century, which underscores its strategic location in the region. The cellars still date from this period and give visitors a sense of the site's original structure.
