Wieldrecht, Village settlement in Dordrecht, Netherlands
Wieldrecht is a small settlement in Dordrecht located between Wieldrechtseweg and the industrial zone Dordtse Kil 1. The Kil River forms its western boundary, and the community includes roughly 20 registered businesses, one of which is an organ builder.
The settlement was an independent municipality from 1817 until 1857, when it merged into the municipality of Dubbeldam. This integration ended its autonomous status and connected it to a larger local administration.
The Wilhelmina Tree, planted in 1898 to mark Queen Wilhelmina's coronation, stands near the local café and remains a gathering spot for residents. This old linden tree connects people to an important moment in Dutch history.
The settlement is easily accessible via Wieldrechtseweg and lies close to the industrial area. Visitors can find local cafés here and enjoy the peaceful setting of this small community.
Until 1977 a regular steamboat service connected Gravendeel and Wieldrecht across the river. The service ended with the completion of the Kil Tunnel, which made the traditional water route unnecessary.
