Pipe organs in the Bovenkerk

The Bovenkerk holds several organs, including the main 1743 Hinsz organ with detailed wooden carvings and mechanical features. The instrument displays the craftsmanship of classical organ building through its visible pipes and structural elements.

The original organ was built in 1520 by Johan van Kovelens, later expanded by masters like Johan Slegel and Johan Duyschot. The 1743 main organ shows how successive generations of builders developed the original work.

The organs sound regularly during concerts and church services, with classical works and Dutch music filling the space. These performances are open to visitors and show the instruments in their original purpose.

The Hinsz organ preserves 1629 pipework by Jan Morlet that shows significant 17th century craftsmanship. These retained components make the instrument a remarkable record of multiple generations of Dutch organ builders.
