Geulhemmermolen

Geulhemmermolen is a watermill situated on the left bank of the Geul River, built from marlstone with hardstone window frames and a tiled roof. The structure displays the practical engineering typical of grain mills from the 18th century.

The mill appears in written records from 1234, marking centuries of grain processing at this location on the Geul. The current building dates to 1768, when miller Arnoldus Josephus Quaedvliek rebuilt and updated the facility.

The mill represents traditional Dutch water-powered grain processing methods and holds protected status as a Rijksmonument for its historical engineering significance.

You can see the restored waterwheel and milling mechanisms from the on-site restaurant, which operates inside the mill building itself. Access to the interior depends on when the restaurant is open to visitors.

The mill operates with three pairs of grinding stones arranged around a wooden gear system. This particular configuration represents one of the few remaining examples of its kind in the Limburg region.
