Taman Indonesia, Indonesian wildlife zoo in Kallenkote, Netherlands
Taman Indonesia is a wildlife park in Kallenkote, in the Netherlands, where animals from Indonesia such as binturong, Bali starlings, civets, Malayan wood owls, and muntjak deer live in recreated natural settings. The park is divided into several areas, each designed around a specific group of species and its native environment.
The park was established when a Balinese temple was inaugurated, making it the first of its kind in the region. That moment set the direction for everything that followed, tying the site firmly to Indonesian culture from the start.
A Balinese temple built in the traditional style stands at the heart of the park and is open for visitors to walk around. Near it, Indonesian artistic elements give a direct sense of how craftsmanship and spiritual life are intertwined in Balinese culture.
Opening days change with the season, so checking current hours before arriving is a good idea. The paths are natural and can be uneven, so sturdy footwear makes the visit more comfortable.
The park is home to the Bengal leopard cat, a small wildcat that most visitors walk past without noticing. Though not much larger than a house cat, it is an active hunter native to the forests of Southeast Asia.
