Sint-Laurentiuskerk, Weesp, Neo-Gothic Catholic church at Herengracht, Weesp, Netherlands
Sint-Laurentiuskerk in Weesp is a Neo-Gothic church with three naves arranged in a cruciform plan, crowned by a prominent tower. The building was repurposed after decades of use as a place of worship and now houses a brewery, offices, apartments, a hotel, and a yoga center.
Construction started in 1875 under architect Theo Asseler, though financial constraints meant only the lower tower section was initially completed. The building eventually fell out of religious use and underwent complete renovation to serve new purposes.
The stained glass windows were created by two different artists at different times, reflecting distinct artistic approaches. Walking inside, you notice how the light filtering through them shapes the feeling of the space.
The building is partially open to the public as it now houses multiple businesses and facilities. Parking is available inside the structure, and accessibility depends on which areas or events are currently open.
After a fire destroyed the tower in 2016, the community rebuilt and reinstalled it exactly two years later on the same calendar date. This precise timing held symbolic meaning for many people involved.
