Het Park, Urban park in Scheepvaartkwartier, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Het Park is a large green space in Rotterdam that covers approximately 20 hectares and offers different areas for walking, resting, and playing. The grounds include designed gardens, paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and open areas for various activities.
Landscape architects Zocher, father and son, created this park in 1852 as public green space. It grew to become the largest protected green monument in the city.
The name reflects its purpose as a central gathering place where the neighborhood comes together and spends time. Today, local artists and poets share their work here regularly, and the community organizes events throughout the year.
The park can be entered from several points and is accessible by foot, bicycle, public transport, or car. There are grilling areas in some sections, and plenty of space for different leisure activities.
Residents manage a vegetable garden and an animal garden in adjoining sections that are both tended by the local community. These initiatives show how people actively shape and use the space around them.
