Kasteel van Tilburg

Kasteel van Tilburg is a medieval fortified residence whose stone foundations are displayed in Stenen Kamerpark. The preserved ruins show the original layout including the water defenses, and a related farm building still stands on nearby Hasseltstraat.

The castle began as a stone chamber around 1450 and was expanded into a full fortress by Jan van Haestrecht. State troops destroyed it in 1581, ending its role as a defensive stronghold.

The castle once served as the seat of local nobility who shaped the region's development. Today, visitors can see how the Lords of Tilburg lived through objects and images displayed in the city museum nearby.

The best place to explore the ruins is Stenen Kamerpark, where the foundations are easy to view and follow. The Castle Farm building on Hasseltstraat is nearby and adds to your understanding of the original estate layout.

Excavations between 1978 and 1980 uncovered tens of thousands of artifacts revealing multiple building phases across centuries. These discoveries allowed historians to trace exactly how the fortress evolved over time.
