Safaripark Beekse Bergen, Safari park in Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands
Safaripark Beekse Bergen is a safari park in Hilvarenbeek where elephants, giraffes, rhinos and lions live in wide enclosures that replicate their natural habitats. The grounds spread across open savannas, woodland areas and water zones so animals roam freely and visitors observe them from multiple vantage points.
The grounds opened in 1968 as the first drive-through wildlife experience in the Netherlands where visitors could navigate animal zones by car. The site expanded over the following decades to include boat safaris and walking trails to offer different ways of encountering wildlife.
Rangers conduct educational presentations throughout the day, explaining the behaviors and conservation status of different animal species.
Visitors can explore the park on foot, drive through in their own car, join a guided bus tour or take a boat ride through the water zones. Those driving follow marked routes without stopping, while walking trails allow closer contact with smaller animal species.
During winter months the grounds transform into a Light Safari with thousands of glowing animal figures along the driving route. This light installation ranks among the largest of its kind in the Benelux countries and draws visitors who explore the site after dark.
