Stadspark Osdorp, park in Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Stadspark Osdorp is a public park in western Amsterdam with open lawns, benches, and paths for walking and cycling. The space features a world-class calisthenics park with exercise equipment, an amphitheater stage for local performances, and colorful ceramic sculptures by artist Adriaan Rees positioned near the bridges crossing the Hoekenes canal.
The park was built in the early 1990s as part of the urban renewal of the Osdorp neighborhood, which had transformed from farmland into a residential area. In 2017 it opened what was then the world's largest calisthenics park, becoming a symbol of modern recreational facilities in the city.
The park takes its name from the Osdorp neighborhood and reflects the area's evolution into an urban community space. It serves as a gathering place where residents conduct their daily outdoor activities and connect with one another.
The park is easily accessible on foot or by bicycle and has public transportation stops nearby along with parking available on surrounding streets. Visitors should wear comfortable clothing, bring water, and prepare for changing weather conditions as the park is open year-round.
Since 2007 the bridges crossing the Hoekenes canal have been adorned with colorful ceramic artworks that enliven the landscape with vibrant colors and unexpected forms. These installed pieces by artist Adriaan Rees catch visitors' eyes and appeal to children because of their playful designs.
