Planetron

Planetron is a planetarium and observatory in Dwingeloo featuring a 15 meter (49 foot) dome where visitors can explore the sky through specialized telescopes and projection systems. The facility combines indoor planetarium shows with direct observation of celestial objects through its equipment.

The facility opened in 1989 as one of only two Zeiss planetariums in the Netherlands. Since its founding, it has served the Drenthe region as a center for astronomical education and public engagement with space science.

The place brings together people of all ages who want to learn about space and stars through hands-on observation and shared experiences. Evening viewing sessions and programs create a community where curiosity about the universe is actively encouraged and celebrated.

Visit during the day to explore the exhibitions or join evening sessions for sky watching, which are held regularly throughout the year. The facility is easily accessible and well-marked for visitors with different mobility needs.

The location in Dwingeloo offers exceptional conditions for sky observation because the surrounding area has very little light pollution. This makes it one of the best places in the region to see the stars clearly.
