Thijsse's Hof

The Thijsse's Hof garden spans two hectares of transformed duinground, featuring native plants from South Kennemerland across varied biotopes including ponds and dune forests.

Created in 1925 to honor naturalist Jac. P. Thijsse's 60th birthday, the garden emerged from a former potato field through designs by Leonard Springer and Cees Sipkes.

The garden initiated the concept of heemtuinen in the Netherlands, establishing a new approach to displaying indigenous plants in their natural plant communities.

Visitors can participate in guided tours, nature education programs, and seasonal events such as Butterfly Day in August and Mushroom Day in autumn.

The garden maintains approximately 800 plant species native to the Kennemer dunes region, with specialized areas including wet dune valleys and dry grasslands.
