Wandelbos, Municipal park and forest in Tilburg, Netherlands.
The Wandelbos is a municipal park and forest covering about 30 hectares with a large pond featuring two islands and bald cypress trees lining the water edges. The grounds include a children's farm, play areas, and an extensive system of walking and cycling paths.
Landscape architect Leonard Springer designed this English-style park in 1917, and unemployed workers constructed it under the direction of the Dutch Heath Company. The project reflected early 20th-century urban planning efforts.
The park functions as a gathering place where Tilburg residents spend time on walks, cycling trips, and family outings throughout the year. Local visitors appreciate it as an accessible green space that blends recreational activities with natural surroundings.
The site lies between the Het Zand and Reeshof neighborhoods with convenient public transport connections, making visits by car optional. Free admission applies year-round, and parking is available on-site.
The site houses North American sequoias and mammoth trees, which are uncommon species in the Netherlands and add a distinctive botanical feature. These large species stand out from typical European forest vegetation and offer visitors a different natural experience.
