Hervormde kerk, Reformed church in Kropswolde, Netherlands
The Hervormde church in Kropswolde is a hall church situated on raised ground within the cemetery, marked by a tower divided into four sections. The structure features curved pilasters that support its balustrade, forming an integral part of its design.
Cistercian monks from the monastery of Yesse built a chapel here in the 12th century that gradually developed into a parish church. By the mid-14th century, the structure had become the main religious center for the surrounding community.
The church holds gravestones of notable community figures, including Reverend Hermannus van Ittersum from 1826. These burial stones reflect the people who shaped the local parish over centuries.
The building is located at Woldweg 115 and has been maintained by the Old Groninger Churches Foundation since 2005. It remains an active place of worship, so checking ahead for opening times or services is wise before visiting.
The church bell measures 85 centimeters across and was cast in 1888 by the Van Bergen brothers in Midwolda. It was created by melting down a cracked earlier bell that no longer served its purpose.
