The Paard van Marken lighthouse stands at 15.5 meters tall with a round brick structure at the eastern point of Marken peninsula.
Built in 1839 by architects J. Valk and A. Koper from Amsterdam, the lighthouse incorporates stones from 1700 featuring carved coats of arms and dolphins.
The lighthouse received Rijksmonument status in 1970, marking its recognition as a protected Dutch national heritage site in the Waterland municipality.
The structure maintains its function as a maritime navigation point with a white occulting light visible for 9 nautical miles, flashing every 8 seconds.
The lighthouse serves multiple purposes, functioning as both a residence and a wedding venue while continuing its maritime guidance duties.
