Established in 1614, this financial institution began as a conversion of a warehouse previously used by the poorhouse for storing peat supplies.
An inscription from 1740 by Balthazar Huydecoper above the entrance discusses the terms of loans and requirements for pawning goods.
The institution maintains multiple branches across Amsterdam, including locations at Albert Cuypstraat, Bijlmerplein, and Osdorpplein for community access.
The bank preserves the chair of poet Joost van den Vondel, who worked as a clerk at the institution for ten years from 1658.
