Slot Teylingen, Medieval castle ruins in Voorhout, Netherlands
The remains of Slot Teylingen consist of a circular wall and a substantial residential tower partially surrounded by water on all sides.
Built in the 13th century by Willem van Teylingen, the castle protected the North-South route until it burned down in 1675.
The castle grounds include the original kitchen gardens which later developed into the current Keukenhof gardens, known for their tulip displays.
The castle ruins are located at Teylingerlaan 15c in Voorhout, with recent renovations making portions of the structure accessible to visitors.
Countess Jacoba of Bavaria, a notable figure in Dutch medieval history, spent her final days within the walls of Slot Teylingen.
