Raadhuis Usquert

Usquert Town Hall is a brick building in the Dutch municipality of Eemsmond featuring a slender tower and rectangular steel windows. The facade displays patterns created by different brick types, topped with gray-blue roof tiles, while the ground floor holds reception and municipal offices and the upper floor contains the council chamber with public gallery.

The building was constructed between 1928 and 1930 under the direction of renowned architect H.P. Berlage. Its completion marked a turning point in local governance and established new standards for public buildings in the region.

The interior showcases Dutch craftsmanship through its ceramic tiles and wooden finishes. These details reflect local building practices and the tastes of the early twentieth century.

The building is open to the public, with the ground floor entrance offering straightforward access to municipal services. The council chamber on the upper floor features a public gallery where visitors can observe local meetings.

A tile artwork by A.C. Strasser-Berlage, the architect's daughter, commemorates the building's opening on January 27, 1930. This personal creation links family history with local heritage in an understated way.
