De Vlijt

De Vlijt stands 16.40 meters tall with a wooden cap covered in tar and operates as a functional gristmill in the Frisian countryside.

The structure began its journey as a polder mill in Oppenhuizen during the 18th century before moving to its current location in 1986.

The mill demonstrates traditional Dutch milling techniques through regular grain processing activities carried out by local volunteer millers throughout the year.

Visitors can observe the internal mechanisms of the mill and learn about grain processing methods during scheduled guided tours from March to October.

The mill incorporates specific architectural elements of a stellingmolen, with an under tower protected by roof tiles and a specialized grinding system.
