De Inktpot, Railway office building in Utrecht, Netherlands
De Inktpot is a railway office building in Utrecht, Netherlands. The facade shows red brick walls with large windows that span several floors.
The building was completed in 1921 to designs by architect George van Heukelom and served as headquarters for the Dutch railway administration. It was later converted into offices for the rail infrastructure company.
The building's name refers to its shape, which resembles a large inkwell that once sat on writing desks. Visitors can spot Art Nouveau details in the hallways and staircases that remain in place today.
The building stands at Moreelsepark 3, just a five-minute walk from Utrecht Central Station. It now houses rail company offices and is not always open to visitors.
Since 2000, a 12-meter-tall metal UFO sculpture has stood on the roof, the last remaining piece from a citywide art exhibition. It remains as a permanent landmark even though the other installations have long been removed.
