Koorkerk, Gothic church building in Middelburg, Netherlands.
The Koorkerk is a Gothic church building in Middelburg featuring six bays with net vaulting in masonry. Its eastern section contains a five-sided choir with star vault, creating a distinctive vertical composition.
The building was constructed around 1300 as part of a Praemonstratenser Abbey with an original wooden barrel vault. After a fire in 1568, this was replaced with the stone net vaulting still visible today.
The name refers to its original function as a choir space within a larger monastic complex. Visitors can observe how furnishings from different periods reflect the building's changing roles over time.
The building occupies the eastern section of a larger abbey complex in central Middelburg, connected to other historical structures on the site. Access and visiting conditions depend on current opening arrangements for the complex.
The interior features a pulpit from 1621 originally from the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam, which was modified in 1820 to fit this space. This piece demonstrates how furnishings migrated between churches and were adapted to new settings.
