Walenburg, Langbroek, Medieval castle garden in Langbroek, Netherlands.
Walenburg is a residential estate featuring a three-story brick tower with vaulted ceilings, wooden floors, and small divided windows fitted with shutters. The grounds include gardens that were redesigned in 1965 by architect E.A. Canneman and his spouse.
The tower was built in the 13th century by the Proeys family and originally stood about 6.50 meters tall with battlements. Traces of these medieval features remain visible in the masonry today.
The Van Lynden van Sandenburg family acquired Walenburg in 1803, maintaining continuous stewardship of this Rijksmonument heritage site through multiple generations.
The estate is located at Langbroekerdijk A 29 in Wijk bij Duurstede municipality and is relatively easy to access. The main entrance provides straightforward access to the gardens and tower for visitors to explore.
The tower rests on archway foundations from medieval times that support its massive base. On the northern side, remnants of an original wooden latrine structure remain visible and document the living conditions of that era.
