Constructed in 1587, Breedenborgh underwent significant renovations in 1850, transforming its appearance to match the architectural preferences of that period.
The estate represents the northern Dutch tradition of borg construction, which combined residential comfort with defensive capabilities for local nobility.
The estate, located at Breede 1 in Warffum, currently operates as a training and conference center under the management of Koop Tjuchem.
Following a devastating fire in 1982, the entire structure was reconstructed in 1992, maintaining its historical architectural elements.
