The Netherlands American Cemetery contains 8,288 military graves across 16 plots, with headstones arranged in curved patterns along a tree-lined central mall.
The cemetery grounds were established in November 1944 by the 611th Graves Registration Company as American forces advanced through the Netherlands during World War II.
The reflecting pool in the Court of Honor leads to a memorial tower containing a chapel with furnishings donated by the Netherlands government.
Located 10 kilometers east of Maastricht, the cemetery welcomes visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with staff members available for assistance.
Dutch families maintain a grave adoption program since 1945, regularly placing flowers and researching the lives of fallen American soldiers.
