Oude Jeroenskerk

The Oude Jeroenskerk is a medieval church building in Noordwijk with a notable tower structure whose walls measure about two meters thick. The main building was constructed in 1303 to replace an earlier structure that had become inadequate.

The tower structure originates from the 13th century and represents the oldest building element of the site. The reconstruction of the main building occurred several generations later to meet the growing needs of the location.

The church is named after Saint Jeroen and houses religious artworks that visitors encounter as they move through the interior space. It serves as a local landmark reflecting the spiritual history of the community.

The location allows visitors to climb approximately 110 steps to an observation platform at the top of the tower structure. Good footwear is helpful since the internal stairs are narrow and steep, particularly when descending.

The building's interior alignment was specifically calculated to correspond with the setting sun position on Saint Jeroen's memorial day. However, an adjustment to the choir section proved necessary to achieve this effect.
