Moerdijkbruggen

The Moerdijkbruggen consists of two parallel railway bridges spanning 105 meters across the Hollands Diep, connecting Dordrecht island to North Brabant province.

The original railway bridge, opened in 1872, held the title of Europe's longest bridge with fourteen arched spans constructed by Werkspoor NV.

The bridges represent the Netherlands' engineering capabilities in water management and transportation infrastructure, linking the country's northern and southern regions.

The newer railway bridge, completed in 2006, carries high-speed trains at speeds reaching 300 kilometers per hour between Rotterdam and Breda.

The bridge complex required specialized construction methods to ensure stability in the soft Dutch soil while maintaining navigation clearance for water vessels.
