Gouwebos, city park
Gouwebos is a nature area near Waddinxveen with trees, grass fields, walking paths, and water features. It includes benches, play equipment, and bridges across small waterways for visitors to explore.
Gouwebos was created starting in 1973 as a planned green space between the towns of Waddinxveen and Boskoop. The main area opened to visitors in 1984 after trees and paths were developed over more than a decade.
Locals visit Gouwebos to walk, rest on benches, and watch children play in open spaces surrounded by trees and water. The place draws neighbors together for simple outdoor moments throughout the year.
The area is open year-round from sunrise to sunset and free to enter, with parking available. Trails of varying lengths accommodate different walking abilities, though dogs are not permitted in certain sections.
Kingfishers and owls live here and can sometimes be spotted or heard during walks. Special nesting boxes were installed for the owls because the trees lack natural cavities for nesting.
