Geuzenbos, Nature area in Sloterdijk, Netherlands.
Geuzenbos is a nature area covering approximately 70 hectares in the Sloterdijk district, marked by diverse woodland and open spaces. The land is crossed by a main road and features numerous walking paths that connect different sections of the grounds.
The land beneath the forest remained waterlogged until 1875, when a dike called the Spaarndammerdijk was built around 1100 to protect the area from water flows. This early engineering work shaped the land and allowed the forest to develop on what was once flooded terrain.
The forest serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors find space to walk and connect with nature. People use the paths throughout the year for recreation and to escape the busy city nearby.
The nature area is accessible through several entry points, with one located near Boezemgemaal Halfweg that provides good orientation. Well-marked pathways make it easy to explore different sections of the grounds.
Scottish Highland cattle and Konik horses roam freely through the forest and naturally maintain the ecological balance of the landscape. These grazing animals create a distinctive appearance not commonly found in city parks.
