Jacobikerk, Uithuizen

The Jacobikerk features a stone tower from the 12th century, followed by a nave constructed in the 13th century and choir added in the 15th century.

Originally dedicated to Saint Dionysius, the church transformed into a Protestant place of worship after the Reduction of Groningen in the 16th century.

The interior showcases works by Groningen artist Allert Meijer, including the organ case, choir screen, and noble benches created in the early 18th century.

The church operates under the management of the Old Groningen Churches Foundation, which maintains the building and organizes regular guided visits.

Instead of a traditional weathercock, the church tower displays a mermaid figure that has remained a symbol of Eemsmond municipality for over 350 years.
