Westerstrand

Westerstrand is a broad sandy beach stretching along the northern coast of Schiermonnikoog, framed by extensive dune systems that run parallel to the shore. The beach features open sands with sparse vegetation on the landward side and shallow water extending into the sea.

The beach width shifts noticeably with tides, revealing shallow pools and sandbars at low water that disappear again as the sea returns. This changing landscape draws shorebirds and occasionally seals, making each visit different depending on the time of day.
