The Stadhuis in Goes is located at Grote Markt 23 and features Gothic elements along with a prominent steeple rising above the central market square. Inside, the building contains renovated administrative rooms and ceremonial spaces that reflect its long architectural history.
The building began in 1410 as a meat market hall and underwent successive expansions over the centuries. Major renovations between 1771 and 1775 transformed it into the structure visitors see today.
The council chamber displays rococo woodwork and ceiling frescoes painted by Giuseppe Soldati, reflecting skilled craftsmanship from the 18th century. These decorative elements were added when the building was redesigned to serve as the city's administrative center.
The building sits centrally at Grote Markt and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should know that interior spaces are mainly available for official events and occasional viewings.
The building houses a mechanical carillon made up of ten bells cast by A.J. van den Gheyn in 1766. An exceptional pipe organ from 1550 is also preserved inside, making it one of the oldest of its kind in the region.
