Kasteel Sevenaer, Medieval château in Zevenaar, Netherlands.
Kasteel Sevenaer is a castle complex in Zevenaar combining residential buildings, farm structures, and open spaces around a central courtyard. The site blends medieval stonework with rural buildings and pastoral land.
The site began in 1414 when Derick II Smullinck received permission to establish the fortification. Over centuries it served as both a residence and a working center for the family and rural operations.
The estate maintains an 18th-century potato cake recipe, prepared with locally grown ingredients and served with traditional dairy products and fruit compote.
The grounds are open for visits, with guided tours available through volunteer staff. A small shop on the property sells local products and handmade items.
At Masiusplein the original foundations are outlined on the ground in stone contours, marked by an illuminated steel tower. This 15-meter structure shows exactly where the drawbridge once stood.
