Elias Beeckmankazerne, Military barracks and national monument in Ede, Netherlands.
Elias Beeckmankazerne is a 1939 military installation with six barrack buildings, a kitchen, and administrative structures made of red brick. The buildings are arranged around a parade ground and form a cohesive, rationally designed complex.
The site was built in 1939 and initially housed the 22nd Infantry Regiment. During World War II it served as a training facility for German forces.
The 1930s architecture shows clean lines and functional design that remain visible today. You can see throughout the complex how buildings were deliberately arranged to reflect the daily operations of a military camp.
The complex is accessible today after transferring to the municipality of Ede in 2011 and is currently undergoing redevelopment. The grounds can be explored easily, and historical structures are being preserved during modernization.
In 1966 the union for conscripted soldiers was founded here, the first of its kind in the world. This event made the barracks the birthplace of a military movement with international significance.
