Laurensziekenhuis, Former medical center in Ginneken district, Breda, Netherlands.
The Laurensziekenhuis is a former hospital located near Ulvenhoutselaan in the Ginneken district. The early 20th-century building features a preserved chapel and two extended wings with distinctive architectural details.
The facility was established in 1913 to care for elderly and sick patients and received backing from Jacoba de Grez-Mahie, whose Villa Valkrust stood nearby. In 1986 it merged with another institution, and the medical operations ended with closure in November 1993.
The building shows how Catholic and Protestant communities worked together in healthcare. The chapel was a shared space where both groups met and their differences became less important.
The site is now part of the Laurenspark residential area, with the original chapel and main building preserved. Visitors can view the architecture from outside and walk through the area, which is now surrounded mainly by residential homes.
The chapel preserves three original stained-glass windows and a coffin from its time as a medical facility. These objects tell quiet stories about the people who received care there.
